Twinning of a portion of the Trans-Canada Highway in Central Newfoundland and beyond Whitbourne and passing lanes near Port aux Basques are part of more than $306 million in joint infrastructure funding announced this morning in St. John’s.
Approximately 15 km of the Trans-Canada between Bishop’s Falls and Grand Falls-Windsor will be twinned, as well as another 40 km west of Whitbourne.
15 km of passing lanes will be also be added along the first 30 km leaving Port aux Basques, allowing for more efficient traffic flow during peak ferry traffic periods.
Paul Lane says while it’s not the announcement he was hoping for, an application has finally been made to the federal government to complete the Team Gushue Highway.
No money has been allotted for the project yet, but Premier Andrew Furey assures the work will be done.
Furey says the commitment is “solid”. He says the province has already allotted funds for the completion of the highway, and, and he is “fully certain” that the work will move ahead.
