Questions surrounding the delay in the commercial crab fishery and its impact on the province’s economy were raised in the House of Assembly this afternoon.
Premier Andrew Furey indicated in response to questions from Opposition Leader David Brazil, that support will be there for plant workers affected, but he shot down suggestions that the province subsidize the fishery.
He says support for plant workers will be there “if they continue to be caught in the crossfire,” but he cast doubt on government’s ability to subsidize harvesters and plant owners.
FFAW Response

FFAW President Greg Pretty wasted no time responding to the seafood processors.
In a news conference at union headquarters in St. John’s early this afternoon, Pretty called out Fisheries Minister Derrick Bragg for a lack of assistance in the dispute.
And he further called for immediate government intervention to stave off disaster.
