The governing Liberals and the opposition sparred in the House of Assembly yesterday over government’s Year of the Arts coming up in 2024.
On Wednesday night government announced that 2024 will be known as the Year of the Arts, and that a new mid-sized theatre is being planned for the capital city.

Tourism Minister Steve Crocker
PC MHA Barry Petten questioned Tourism, Arts, and Recreation Minister Steve Crocker about the announcement, noting that he believes the focus should be put on revitalizing another theatre in St. John’s. He says the Reid Theatre has sat vacant for over a decade.
Crocker says government is looking for an opportunity to establish a new theatre. He says that could mean building new or renovating an existing space, and they are looking at their options.
