A classic tale of two lovers in a beloved Newfoundland folk song has taken a turn.
The Star of Logy Bay follows the story of two lovers, but the young woman’s father forces her out of the community for as long as her love is there.
The young man sets out on a worldwide search to find the woman, but is unsuccessful in his quest—until now.
While clearing out an old home in Conception Bay North, realtor Al Stacey discovered an original version of the song which included two additional verses that ends with the man being reunited with The Star of Logy Bay.
Following the discovery, the lyrics were handed over to artist Jim Payne who has recorded a new version of the tune in support of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada.
Payne says he played it live a few times and wanted to release the fairytale ending version of a song for a cause that would grab people’s attention.
The revamped version of The Star of Logy Bay is available for download with a $25 donation to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada.
