The Marine Institute has officially opened its new facility in Holyrood.
The Launch is a marine living lab that gives students a near arctic environment to test new technology and train in harsh conditions.
Its ocean-front location gives students direct access to the sea for their work. As well, it includes bright educational areas and workshops.
The new building itself is named after Dr. Arthur May, who served as MUN President from 1990 to 1999.
Members of May’s family were on hand for the official opening of the building.
May’s son Stephen was emotional when talking about his father’s name being displayed on the front of the building.
He calls it a “surreal” moment for his family. May says his father would have been “honoured and humbled” to have the building named after him.
