RCMP say the culprits involved in a bold theft of an ATM from the Credit Union in Witless Bay on the weekend used a stolen pickup and excavator in the crime.
The excavator was used to smash through the front of the building around 5:00 Sunday morning, causing extensive damage.
RCMP say the excavator and pickup were stolen from a nearby business, and the pickup was used to transport the stolen ATM.
The truck was found this morning burned out in a gravel pit off the Holyrood Access Road.
Witless Bay Mayor Trevor Croft says work is already underway to repair the damage caused.
He says property restoration crews are already at the scene and will be working throughout the week to get the facility back up and running.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the RCMP at 229-3892 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
