The premier is playing an intervening role as talks between the FFAW and the Association of Seafood Producers continued today in an attempt to get the crab fishery started.
The union says the Bargaining Committee is clear that there is no willingness to fish unless companies move beyond the $2.20 minimum price set by the Fish Price Setting Panel.
Discussions are planned to continue through the evening with the assistance of Premier Andrew Furey.
The premier has committed to making changes to the process and that next season will not be the same according to the FFAW, and he has promised to work towards a pricing formula that will ensure “fairness, transparency and stability for the industry.”
However, the union warns, an immediate solution is still needed to get the fishery underway this year.
Further updates will be provided when available.
