Newfoundland and Labrador is in the middle of the pack when it comes to the impact of climate change on the provinces and territories.
Bonus.ca did the rankings based on data from the Climate Atlas of Canada. They assessed the nominal and relative changes in climate variables including mean temperature, number of heatwaves and very hot days.
Last summer was one of the warmest on record in parts of Newfoundland and Labrador including the St. John’s area.
The Yukon is set for the biggest climate change impact with the average length of heatwaves expected to increase by 45 per cent by 2050. British Columbia is next followed by Nunavut, Quebec, Ontario, PEI and New Brunswick.
Newfoundland and Labrador is ranked eighth in the country followed by Nova Scotia, Northwest Territories, Manitoba, Alberta and Saskatchewan.
