The first in a series of Memorial University convocation ceremonies begins today at the Arts and Culture Centre in Corner Brook.

The first ceremony takes place at 10:00 a.m. followed by two more this afternoon and this evening.

Among those receiving honourary degrees during today’s sessions are Mi’qma’q Elder Odelle Pike, Gurdeep Pandher who became famous for releasing a series of joyous Punjabi dance videos from his home in Yukon Territory during the pandemic, and David Hein and Irene Sankoff, the married team behind the award-winning Broadway blockbuster Come From Away.

Convocation ceremonies in St. John’s begin on May 30 and run through to June 2.
