Government has issued Request for Proposals for health facilities on the northeast Avalon.
The first of which is an ambulatory care centre. The RFP is asking for around 78,000 square feet on the northeast Avalon to develop the new centre, which will improve access to same day services where overnight hospitalization is not required such as physiotherapy, blood collection and ultrasounds.
The facility will decrease vehicle and foot traffic at acute care facilities, allow for the expansion of critical in-patient services at acute care centres, and increase the number of clinical spaces available which reduces wait times. It is estimated to open in 2025.
Meanwhile, another Request for Proposals was issued to find consultants to help with the programming of a new community mental health and addictions centre, also on the northeast Avalon.
The specialized treatment centre will target patients with persistent mental health issues and provide support to those not requiring in-patient care.
The facility will cater to patients with persistent mental health issues, developmental disabilities, or acquired brain injuries, and those in mental health distress not requiring hospitalization.
The consultant will analyze clinical services, space requirements, service delivery methods, operating costs, and human resources.
They will also assess whether the 20-bed Recovery Centre in Pleasantville should be co-located with the new facility. The project is part of a $40 million expenditure in community-based mental health and addiction services.
