The House of Assembly has concluded its spring sitting.
Lieutenant Governor Judy Foote officially closed proceedings yesterday afternoon.
Premier Andrew Furey says this session began with an emergency sitting of the legislature in January to tackle the ambulance strike.
As for the regular sitting days, Furey describes it as a “budget session.”
He says the budget tackled the needs of people in the province. At the same time, he says they passed several pieces of legislation while also navigating cost of living challenges. Overall, he says it was a “people’s budget and people’s session.”
It’s the cost of living challenges that NDP Leader Jim Dinn points to while reflecting on the spring sitting.
He says long-term solutions need to be found in terms of dental care, affordability of prescriptions, and affordability of food.
Meanwhile, PC leader David Brazil is reflecting on over two years leading the party in the legislature. When the House reconvenes in the fall a new, permanent leader will be in place.
Brazil believes he and the rest of the party have done their part to do some good in the province, including getting changes to legislation that reflect what they’re hearing from people.
