The annual telethon in aid of the Janeway Children’s Hospital is set to go ahead this coming weekend.
The province’s only pediatric hospital serves thousands of children across the province from dealing with regular illness and injury to helping kids through chronic sickness and disease.
A telethon is held each year to raise funds towards new equipment and hospital improvements.
Rebecca Dutton, President and CEO of the Janeway Children’s Hospital Foundation says wait times at the hospital are “higher than ever”, making that the focus of this year’s campaign.
She says they want to reduce wait times for diagnostic testing and help clear up surgical backlogs by bringing in additional equipment.
This year’s fundraising goal is set at $2.5 million, which reflects what Dutton calls an “astronomical increase” in the price of medical equipment.
Donations can be made by calling in during the telethon on June 3 from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. and June 4 from noon until 7:00 p.m. People can also support by donating online.
