The City of St. John’s is introducing a new process for street naming and civic addressing.
The new policy will provide formalized guidance for existing city processes.
A new Street Naming Advisory Committee will be formed, which will review street naming applications from the general public and developers.
The committee will also seek feedback from the Inclusion Advisory Committee and other groups to ensure a diverse selection of names.
There are currently three street names reserved for developments that have been approved by the city. Those names will still be assigned, however the city has an existing list of over 400 proposed street names.
That list is going to start from scratch, and the city is asking anyone wishing to resubmit a name to do so.
Assignment and reassignment of civic addresses will be managed by the city.
Council will vote on the new policy this afternoon.
