The CEO of Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro says the Labrador Island Link is now delivering some 500 MW of power to the island and is also delivering power to Nova Scotia through the Maritime Link.
Jennifer Williams addressed the Energy NL conference in St. John’s this morning.
She indicated that a lot has changed since her last address to the energy sector last year, not the least of which was the commissioning of the LIL in April.
Williams calls the commissioning a “massive step” towards meeting Net Zero commitments for the electricity sector.
“Just how Net Zero are we?” Williams asked. “Last year we ended the year with more than 90 per cent of this electricity generated in the province from renewable resources.” She says there is a perception, because the Holyrood generating station is still functioning in a back-up capacity that “we’re not that clean” but “more than 90 per cent is pretty significant.”
