Federal Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson has announced amendments to the Atlantic Accord to include renewable and other forms of energy.
Wilkinson made the announcement this afternoon.
He says over 50 gigawatts of offshore wind projects have been installed globally, and that number is growing every day, “demonstrated an enormous economic opportunity for provinces like Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia.”
Premier Andrew Furey and Energy Minister Andrew Parsons have released a joint statement on the matter.
They call the proposed amendments “significant,” noting that they will ensure joint management of the province’s offshore wind resources, as well as the exclusive jurisdiction of certain coastal waters.
Wilkinson will be available to reporters in St. John’s tomorrow morning along with Premier Andrew Furey and MP Seamus O’Regan.
