Ice conditions are improving on the Strait of Belle Isle and that means the resumption of regularly-scheduled service for the Qajaq W.
The Woodward Group of Companies says lingering Arctic ice in the Straits meant that nearly half of all scheduled crossings in May were cancelled—45 of 95 scheduled crossings.
An additional seven crossings were cancelled over the same period due to high winds.
Labrador Marine Incorporated is continuing to monitor ice conditions but is hoping that a favourable shift in wind direction will help with the resumption of regular service.
General Manager Captain Austin Daley acknowledges the frustration caused by the cancellations. The regular summer schedule is set for June 19.
