Bay du Nord is halted, and the main company behind it says now is the time for them to “roll up [their] sleeves” and figure out how to make the project work.
Tore Løseth, Executive Vice-President, Exploration with Equinor, is firm that the company wants Bay du Nord to continue.
Their plan moving forward is to put a team together to look at all aspects of the project to figure out what needs to be done.
As for their relationship with government, Løseth says the decision by Equinor and bp was made independent of the benefits agreement with the province.
That said, he notes the importance of that agreement with government.
He says their Executive Vice-President will soon be travelling to the province to continue dialogue with government.
Meanwhile Opposition Leader David Brazil says the tone of the situation is a bit more positive after hearing what Løseth had to say.
He cites Equinor’s speech at the Energy NL conference outlining their commitment to the project, and says he likes what he has heard from them in terms of finding a way for the project to proceed.
That said, Brazil still has some concerns. He says it is still not clear what the real reason is for the delay, and he is calling on the province and the federal government to be more open about what is being discussed.
