Former St. John’s mayor and deputy mayor Shannie Duff was in fine form Friday at O’Brien Farm near Mount Scio.
The former chair of the farm and entire restoration and expansion project was there with about a hundred others to mark the grand opening of two, new, modern learning structures on the site off Oxen Pond Road.

But Duff says the opening of those buildings represents an even greater accomplishment.
“We are officially opening the two new farm learning buildings but it’s not only the learning centre buildings that we are opening today. It is the entire farm — 32 acres of woodland and forest and meadows which will be the place where the learning on this farm will take place.”
The city, the province and ACOA have been the major funders for the farm development, along with generous donations including from the Pippy family, of Pippy Park, within which the farm is located.
