The Nunatsiavut Government is celebrating National Indigenous History Month.
President Johannes Lampe calls it a time to honour the resilience, achievements, and stories of people who have helped shape the country.
He says the people of Nunatsiavut have a lot to be proud of as one of the founding peoples of Canada, the descendants of the prehistoric Thule hunters were drawn to the Labrador region by the abundance of whales and other wildlife.
He says the Labrador Inuit are the southernmost Inuit homeland and the first Inuit in Canada to achieve self-government.
Nunatsiavut will continue to showcase and promote its culture and heritage through initiatives like the Torngat Mountains Base Camp Youth Leadership Program, the Tupik Pilot Project, the Kajak Revival Project, language and culture camps, and youth and elder gatherings.
