Opera on the Avalon is celebrating their 15th anniversary season.
To mark the event, the company is launching a number of new projects as part of the 2023 season.
The third opera in its New Commission Series, “February” will hit the stage. The show is based on the novel by Lisa Moore on the sinking of the Ocean Ranger, and is composed by Laura Kaminsky and directed by Ruth Lawrence. The show will premier in October.
The company is also launching “75 x 75”, a multidisciplinary project marking the 75th anniversary of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Confederation with Canada. It will feature performances and interviews from over 75 individuals on the significance of Confederation.
Finally, the company is offering a new Young Artist Program, which will consist of a twelve-month program with mentorship and coaching with industry leaders, professional performance opportunities, workshops for career development and a multi-week Artistic Residency in St. John’s, along with twelve months of financial support.
