The so-called “grocery rebate,” an additional one-time payment attached to the regular GST/HST payment is coming out in July—but beware, scammers are already trying to trick you into giving them money instead.
The grocery rebate will be provided to those with low to modest incomes and will come automatically with the July GST rebate.
The maximum allowable amounts for people who qualify is $153 per adult, $81 per child and $81 for the single supplement.
The payment is automatic for those who meet the criteria and there is no need to apply.
Scammers are already using the rebate as a means to separate people from their hard-earned money. Beware if you receive a text or an email suggesting that you click a link for more information on how to get the rebate. Don’t respond, click the link, or provide information to any unsolicited text, email or phone call.
