Wind direction is sparing most of Newfoundland and Labrador from the smoke from wildfires burning across Canada.
Air quality warnings have been issued throughout Ontario and Quebec and even down into the United States as far as New York City as a result of the smoke from forest fires burning on the Canadian side of the border.
Environment Canada Meteorologist David Neil says for now an easterly flow means most of Newfoundland and Labrador has been able to avoid air quality warnings.
That said, Neil says some areas, especially western Newfoundland could start to see smoke moving in this evening as winds dissipate.
