A 34-year-old man is scheduled to appear in Stephenville provincial court today on charges of endangering safety following an incident last week.
Ahmed Omar Aden was removed from a Delta Airlines flight which had diverted to Stephenville last Friday after the crew reported an unruly and intoxicated passenger who had to be detained by crew members.
RCMP took the man into custody. The actions of the officers involved are now subject of a SIRT investigation. Video of the officers removing the man from the flight and taking him into custody has been circulating on social media. It shows the officers roughly pushing the man onto the bonnet and into the side of the police vehicle, before he’s put into the SUV.
At one point, the man’s feet can be seen above the roof of the vehicle.
RCMP say the matter was referred to SIRT-NL in the interest of transparency and accountability.
The accused is facing one count each of endangering safety by interfering with the duty of crew, and endangering safety by lessening the ability of crew to perform their duties.
