A small Indigenous business located in Grand Falls-Windsor, is making a meaningful contribution to their community by promoting Truth and Reconciliation efforts in honor of National Indigenous Day.
Sisters Gifts, run by two Anishinaabe sisters who grew up in the area, have partnered with the Town of Grand Falls-Windsor and the Demasduit Regional Museum to install a unique crosswalk at the intersection of Cromer Avenue and St. Catherine Street.
The crosswalk, known as the 7 Feather crosswalk, will be painted in vibrant orange with seven white feather images serving as the crosswalk lines. This design holds great significance within Anishinaabe culture and numerous other First Nations, representing the 7 Grandfather Teachings. These teachings encompass important values such as wisdom, love, respect, bravery, honesty, humility, and truth.
To commemorate the installation of this symbolic crosswalk, Sisters Gifts will be hosting a dedication and reception event on Wednesday, June 21, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
This occasion aims to foster cultural sharing, promote reconciliation, and raise awareness of National Indigenous Day. The community is invited to participate in this momentous event and engage with Indigenous traditions and heritage.
