The province’s Child and Youth Advocate is concerned about the increased number of incidents of hate aimed at the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
The office says rights for queer and gender-diverse people are included in the rights put forward by the United Nations to improve and protect a child’s quality of life.
They say young people have a right to freely express their identity through sexuality, gender identity, and gender expression.
They tout the importance of diverse and inclusive education programs to help all children understand their rights in all aspects of society.
Despite recent online controversy on the topic, the Child and Youth advocate is throwing her support behind schools who include 2SLGBTQIA+ education and activities in their curriculum.
They’re encouraging any child who feels they are being mistreated due to their identity to reach out to their office for support.
