One of three people charged in the alleged abduction of a teenage girl will remain in jail at least until Friday.
72-year-old Wilbur Jerome Crockwell of New Brunswick is accused of abducting a minor and luring a child online.
He made another brief appearance in provincial court this afternoon, bending over to hide his face in court and while being escorted back and forth by sheriff’s officers.
His lawyer Bob Buckingham asked for more time to review the facts from the Crown before seeking bail for his client on Friday morning.
Two others accused in the same case—63-year-old Erin Bast and 69-year-old Frederick Cyril Boone, both from the Milltown area in central Newfoundland, are charged with child abduction and conspiracy to do so.
The girl, whose name is now banned from publication by court order, was first reported missing June 2, followed by an Amber Alert last Thursday as police received more information in the case.
They believe Crockwell entered the province by ferry at Port aux Basques before being arrested in Badger.
The girl, meanwhile, was found unharmed in a cabin on the Bay D’Espoir Highway, along with Bast and Boone
Their bail hearings are also scheduled for this afternoon.
