The provincial Opposition is wondering if Premier Andrew Furey is having a crisis of conscience following recent comments on the federal Carbon Tax, due to come into effect on July 1.
Premier Furey pulled no punches on Your VOCM Mornings earlier this week following a meeting with his Atlantic Canadian counterparts in PEI.
Furey indicated that he takes exception to the federal minister’s “insulting” approach to climate change mitigation and the impact the new tax will have on the cost of goods and services in this province.
Opposition Leader David Brazil says while he’s happy that the premier is fighting for what will be an “injustice” and “financial burden” to the province, but it comes too late.
“The fear here, is it too late in the game for them to make changes to realize the impact it’s going to have on the cost of everything for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians?” Brazil asks.
