Unconfirmed reports indicate that the victim of a police-involved shooting at Regatta Plaza on Monday was wanted by the RNC.

Police issued a news release last Thursday saying they were searching for 38-year-old Omar Abdul Gassim Mohammed who was wanted on arrest warrants in connection with his failure to comply with court orders.

RNC say they’re unable to confirm the identity of the deceased and must defer to SIRT-NL, which is conducting an investigation into the shooting.

SIRT-NL has only been able to confirm that the deceased is a 38-year-old man and they were in the process of trying to track down next-of -kin.

Little information has been released publicly about the incident at Regatta Plaza, other than a man died and a police officer was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries and released.

The incident resulted in the temporary closure of a number of businesses and offices in the building including the office of immigration and employment services.
