There’s a big gathering at the RE/Max Centre in St. John’s this weekend of people enthusiastic about beanbag tossing.
The sport, known popularly as cornhole in the United States, is growing increasingly popular, and is a favourite game in backyards and at cabins and campsites.
It involves a board on a slant, with a hole at the top. The player tosses beanbags at the board and earns points when their beanbag goes through the hole or lands on the board.
Co-owner and operator of Cornhole NL and organizer of this weekend’s ACL Cornhole Canada Open event, Amber Rogers, was introduced to the sport by a friend. Now, she’s hooked.
She used to play washers all the time, but a friend brought a cornhole set to the cabin to play one weekend, and they decided to set up a local league.
Events are planned throughout the weekend and anyone can pop down to give it a try.
