The City of St. John’s is continuing work to proceed with an east end housing development.
In March, council approved NL Housing’s request to rezone land at 20 Janeway Place to develop four 2-storey complexes, despite pushback from area residents.
Concerns include loss of green space, reduced property value, and potential asbestos exposure due to demolition of the old Janeway Hospital.
In order to proceed with construction plans, council must approve a municipal amendment to allow an apartment building in the neighbourhood.
A commissioner’s report based on public feedback is suggesting the city prioritize frequent communication with area residents and consider fencing between properties as a boundary.
The city will discuss the matter further during this afternoon’s regular meeting.
