International media has become no stranger to St. John’s in recent days with the capital city becoming the hub of activity for information regarding the Titan tragedy.
Among international news agencies carrying live coverage from St. John’s Harbour is CNN, with senior journalist Anderson Cooper arriving in the province to report on the tragedy on Thursday evening.
Dozens of locals and tourists turned out to the Harbourside Park area to get a glimpse at the veteran reporter and 60 Minutes correspondent.
Cooper met briefly with VOCM News following a live broadcast on Friday morning. He says while he wishes his visit to the province was prompted by better circumstances, he is blown away by the local hospitality.
“It’s so beautiful,” said Cooper. “Everyone’s so nice too.”
He told VOCM’s Sara Strickland that this is his second visit to the province, having visited Gander years ago.
Signing off from his show AC360 on Friday night, Cooper thanked the people of St. John’s for their help in covering the story of the Titan.
“I’ve travelled all over the world but I’ve rarely met such kind and decent concerned people as I have in just the last few days in St. John’s,” said Cooper.
