Heritage NL has designated a wood carding mill in the Codroy Valley as a registered heritage structure.
The Gale Carding Mill in Millville along Granddaddy’s Brook is a well-known local landmark and is suspected to be the last remaining wool carding mill in the province.
The building was constructed around 1940 using all locally milled lumber by Alexander Gale and was known to turn out 40,000 pounds of wool at peak production.
Millville was established in 1897 when Gale first started his business in a previous building that is no longer standing.
