This province’s industry minister says despite some challenges development would pose, Labrador West has the potential to be a leader worldwide in green steel production.

Green steel is steel that is refined from iron ore using methods that produce fewer carbon emissions, and is heavily in demand to create green energy components such as wind turbines and batteries.

Minister Andrew Parsons says he continues to hear of big opportunities in green steel for this province, despite some challenges.

He says primarily the issue is that a green steel operation would require a huge supply of power. However, he says other jurisdictions would “kill” to have only that issue to overcome.
