We may have some insight tomorrow as to the full effects of the second wave of the July 1 fuel price increases.
The Public Utilities Board has been wading through the Clean Fuel Standards, the effects of which will likely hit the gas pumps tomorrow. The new tax will also apply to heating fuels.
Critics say the tax will not only have a direct impact on us through fuel consumption, but will also trickle down to virtually everything we consume.
Marine Atlantic, which had planned to raise its fuel surcharge, delayed doing so because of the impending increase in the carbon tax and the imposition of the new fuel standards tax.
Spokesman Darrell Mercer says they don’t yet know just how the taxes will affect the fees they charge.
Mercer is uncertain as to when it will make a decision regarding surcharges and fees.
