Sharing the Harvest NL is encouraging the donation of capelin to food banks as the fish have starting rolling.
The group looks to get local foods such as moose meat and fish to food banks and food programs.
Executive Director and Founder of Sharing the Harvest NL, Barry Fordham says this year, he’s been able to catch around 900, which are all washed, frozen, and bagged for donation.
Fordham says there are many foods that can be donated to food banks.
Last year, they donated enough capelin, moose, caribou, blueberries and partridge berries for 4,500 to 5,000 meals.
