Despite a late start in planning this year’s event, things are well in place for the upcoming St. John’s Pride Festival.

The two-week-long event gets underway this Sunday with a queer market at the St. John’s Farmers Market. Activities continue each day leading up to the downtown St. John’s Pride Parade and Pride in the Park events on Sunday, July 23.

St. John’s Pride Chair, Eddy St. Coeur, says despite the committee only coming together in late May, a number of community groups quickly partnered up with them to create a full schedule of events.

He says when people weren’t sure if there would be a pride festival this year, they took it into their own hands to plan events. When the St. John’s Pride board was finally elected, the group was able to reach out to different organizations to promote their events and form the festival.
