Government has appointed seven people to the Board of Regents at Memorial University.
For the first time, teaching staff are represented on the board, which was a request from MUNFA. A change in collegial governance of the institution was one of the key issues in the recent strike by faculty.
They are: Bob Hallett, a musician and author; Dr. Ashrafee Hossain, MUNFA; Justin Ladha, CEO of KMK Capital; Chief Brendan Mitchell, Chief of Qalipu Nation; Nathalie Pender, a French teacher; Tim Powers, Summa Strategies and Abacus Data; Lynn Zurel, Chief Financial Officer, Stonebridge Capital.
Dr. Hossain says while they welcome the appointment of two members of MUNFA, they would like to see other teaching groups represented on the board as well.
For example, the Marine Institute, represented by NAPE, lab instructors represented by CUPE, and per course instructors were all left out, he says.
