The provincial government is introducing mobile health clinics to travel around the province and provide access to a family doctor or nurse practitioner to help fill gaps in access to health care.
Two mobile clinics will be launched later this year with more set for launch next year.
The mobile clinic consists of a custom-designed vehicle, supplied with all the necessary equipment, which will accommodate a team of medical professionals including family physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and clerical staff that will travel to areas with limited access to primary care.
Health Minister Tom Osborne outlined the new initiative today.
He says the introduction of mobile clinics will reduce costs, and increase efficiency while providing high-quality primary care to patients.
The mobile clinic will help with the treatment of minor ailments, provide chronic disease care and prevention programs, and referrals for follow-up.
The clinics will also be available to help emergency departments as needed and provide care to patients with non-urgent health concerns.
