Ocean Choice International has sold its shrimp processing plant in Port au Choix to Barry Group.
OCI had been operating the plant since 2007, however since that time there has been over a 150 million pound decline in the quota available for processing.

They say that due to the declining resource, the shrimp industry has been forced to consolidate, otherwise it would be “extremely difficult” to have long term sustainable operations.
OCI CEO Martin Sullivan says while the sale was a difficult decision, they believe it is the best one for the company, workers, and the community.
He believes Barry Group will operate the plant for many years to come.
The new owners expect operations at the plant to commence later this month, with plans to operate it for the season.
