The provincial government is giving Memorial University money to reduce campus fees.
MUN charges undergraduates and graduate students, as well as medical residents completing six-month enhanced skills programs, a campus renewal fee.
The university recently increased tuition fees after government reduced its operating grant. In response, the province created Tuition Relief Grant which provides eligible students with up to $3,450 per academic year in the form of non-repayable grants.
The one-time subsidy of $10 million announced today reduces the annual cost to full-time undergraduate students completing 10 courses (30 credit hours) by $500. Premier Andrew Furey says the $10 million will provide some relief to thousands of students.

Meanwhile, the Students Union says the $10 million is a drop in the bucket. The cut of over $68 million in funding for the tuition offset grant continues to be a detriment to young people, families and the future of the province.
MUNSU official John Harris is calling on government to reinstate that $68 million.
