Police in the Trinity Bay area are investigating a rash of commercial break-ins last week.
The first happened two Sundays ago at the Blue Whale Lounge in South Dildo. An ATM was destroyed and the safe inside was stolen.
Last Saturday, shortly before 3:30 a.m., there was a break-in at the Chance Cove Municipal Building, which also contains the post office. A safe containing cheques and cash was stolen.
Thieves attempted to break into a safe at the post office, but were unsuccessful. They did, however, make away with cash, a number of parcels, and chocolate bars.
Thirty minutes later in Bellevue there was another break-in at King’s Corner Convenience during which an ATM was damaged and emptied of cash.
The suspect, believed to be a man, fled into a wooded area as the owners arrived. He’s tall and was wearing black clothing and a ski mask.
At the same time, a small black vehicle, possibly an older Honda, was seen parked nearby. A man in his sixties and with a grey beard was behind the wheel.
Police believe those suspects are responsible for the other break-ins.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
