It’s another scorcher in some parts of the province after a day on which records were either broken or nearly broken.
Heat warnings are out for the stretch from St. John’s to Terra Nova National Park but not central Newfoundland. Southeastern Labrador is also under a heat warning.

Meteorologist Brendan Sawchuck says the temperature yesterday broke 30 degrees in some areas.
Bonavista and Daniel’s Harbour set temperature records, Deer Lake set a record for humidity with a dew point of 23.5 and some areas were close to setting humidex records.
Forest Fire Index

There’s a significant fluctuation in the forest fire index today with some areas low to moderate and others high to extreme.
Even where areas are on the low-risk end of the scale, it can change to extreme within a couple of days. Forestry firefighters says if you do have a boil-up or campfire, make sure the fire is out before you leave as it could smoulder for a couple of days, then start burning again once the fire index goes up.
Duty Officer Mark Lawlor says everyone has to be mindful of fire safety at all times but especially during hot weather.
The index is low in the Labrador west but extreme in southern Labrador says Lawlor. The hazard is low on the western part of the island but Clarenville-Gander is extreme and the Avalon Peninsula moderate.
It has been a hot stretch but Lawlor says the high humidity—which means moisture in the area—has tempered the forest fire risk.
The hot temperatures drive the index up but the high humidity moderates the fire index,” says Lawlor.
