The province has awarded a $2.5 million contract for the demolition of the old Grace Hospital Nursing Residence.
Inflector Environmental Services will conduct the work, which includes hazardous material abatement and disposal, pest control, building demolition, site security, and removal of building service lines.
Neighbourhood residents and advocates have long been advocating for the building, which has been abandoned for decades and considered to be a significant eye sore, to be torn down.
Last fall, government announced that its demolition would finally be happening as they search for the site of the St. Clare’s replacement, though they have not committed to any site as of yet.
There’s no details on when the work will be completed.
