RCMP confirm that the body of an 81-year-old man has been recovered from Dean’s Cove Pond near Hickman’s Harbour.

Police received a report shortly before 7:00 p.m. on Friday that the man was overdue from a fishing trip, and that his boat had been found in the pond.

The Triple Bay Eagles Ground Search and Rescue and a helicopter out of Gander, from the Atlantic Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, were engaged in the search. An aerial drone was also used, with search activities continuing into late Saturday night.

The man’s body was discovered Sunday by a member of the RCMP’s underwater recovery team. A lifejacket was also found floating underneath the boat.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was engaged as the investigation continues.
