The man behind the sprawling Galway development says it would be an ideal location for any new health facilities being contemplated by the provincial government.
Danny Williams provided an update Friday on the accelerating growth of the site on the southwest edge of St. John’s.
The latest involves the new underpass along the TCH, which serves not just Galway but also the heavy construction companies on the opposite side of the highway.
Williams is also offering up about 10 acres, free of charge, for potential construction of a new four-rink complex, or quadraplex, given the rising demand for ice time in the region.
But he says there’s also a big opportunity to avail of Galway’s quick and easy access to health care to complement the existing clinic.
The province has said it plans to replace the aging St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, but it’s widely believed that it will be built on the site of the old Grace Hospital Nursing Residence nearby.
Meanwhile, Williams says interest in the retail potential of Galway is already being realized.
A soon-to-be completed extension of Southlands Boulevard will also connect that development with Galway.
Encompassing about 2,500 acres in total, Galway is about the size of the Town of Gander.
