The official opposition is once again raising the alarm over emergency room closures in central Newfoundland.
PC MHA Pleaman Forsey says closures “remain the norm” and he wants more action from government to keep them open.
Pointing to recent closures at the hospitals in Lewisporte and Springdale, and the lack of 24/7 coverage by the ER in Botwood as examples, Forsey fears that the central region is being “forgotten” and not enough emphasis has been put on making health care accessible to residents.
Forsey says mobile health units are one solution that has been brought forward, but he questions how those can be staffed when emergency room staffing remains such an issue.
