The provincial government is reminding the public of resources available for those seeking mental health and addictions services.
This comes following 11 drug related deaths in the province over the last month, and the confirmation of the presence of the deadly opioid fentanyl.
Naloxone kits are publicly available by calling 811 or vising a distribution site.
The kits can help reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. As well, they ask people to remember harm reduction guidelines—such as not using alone, reducing the quantity used, and always having a naloxone kit on hand.
According to government, some 400 such kits were distributed in late July to various bars, security staff, and RNC officers in the Eastern Urban Zone.
Two hundred additional kits arrived this week, with another 800 en route.
Other resources available include Opioid Dependence Treatment Hubs, which provide same day or next day opioid agonist therapy. Hubs are available in St. John’s, Gander, Grand Falls-Windsor, Corner Brook, and Happy Valley-Goose Bay. They can be reached by calling 1-844-752-3588.
As well, they note the Recovery Centre is available in St. John’s to people age 16 and over. They can be reached at 1-877-752-4980.
