The Executive Director of the Association for New Canadians says no newcomer in temporary accommodations will be left without a place to live.
This comes as the deadline for a number of Ukrainians in temporary hotel accommodations to find housing passed this Friday. Around fifteen families moved out on that day.
The NDP has raised the alarm, saying that the housing crunch in the metro region has made it nearly impossible to find an affordable place to stay. ANC Executive Director Megan Morris says that while the housing market is difficult, no one is being left out in the cold.
She says the newcomers could apply for an extension, and only a small number of those applications were denied, but they have worked with those people to find housing.
Morris says everyone who left had something lined up, whether that is a homestay in the community or a place of their own, “Nobody went into a situation where they did not have a place to stay.”
Morris says there are 390 families still in temporary accommodations.
