A spa development in the Blackhead Road area of St. John’s is back on council’s agenda today.
The proposed Nordic Spa development has resulted in strong opposition from area residents.
The city says residents expressed their views “forcefully,” at a recent public meeting, noting that the meeting got heated at times.
Among their concerns are commercialization of the residential area, and water use. Residents say water pressure in the area is low and wells have gone dry. They worry the water needed for the spa would exacerbate those issues.
There was some support expressed for the development, but not by immediate neighbours.
Today, council will vote on amendments related to zoning in the area.
City staff have recommended approval, subject to a floodplain analysis and confirming an adequate water supply on site.
City council meets this afternoon.
