A 14-year-old boy has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the homicide of a 65-year-old woman in Mount Pearl last week.
Police were first called to the home on Smallwood Drive shortly after 4 p.m. last Thursday in response to reports of a sudden death.
After consulting with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the woman’s death was ruled as a homicide.
Just after midnight this morning, the suspect was found at a home in Mount Pearl and subsequently arrested. He is being held for a court appearance.
RNC Constable James Cadigan could not provide specific details about the relationship between the boy and the victim, other than to say they were known to each other.
The investigation is ongoing. Specifically, the police are searching for a blue plastic recycling bag that is believed to have been discarded on Smallwood Drive or in the surrounding area.
People are being asked to check their properties and garbage bins, and to report any suspicious items to the RNC.
Additionally, the police are seeking video footage, such as doorbell cams and dashcams, from the area.
